still sketching! ••• week 3 and 4 •••

it almost seems as if i gave up on my sketch-a-day 2011 project... but in reality i just neglected posting about it. so here are a few samples of the last 2 weeks of sketching. i also finished a pencil portrait of my nephew, i'll save that for another post.

the top one is a sketch of alphonse mucha's biclycle advertising. mucha is my favorite artist, i love the way he accurately captured life-like poses and the beautiful lines of a human body and at the same time over-emphasised the flow of hair and fabric.

i'm looking for a picture to paint on the dart board enclosure that my husband built, and i am thinking of that bicycle picture from mucha. my dear hubby wanted to have a dart board in the middle of the living room, and since that's not really the look i was going for i only agreed under one condition: i would be able to paint the doors of the enclosure. this way it would look like a piece of wall art while the dart board is not in use. i'll post a picture of it once it's all done.

sometimes i envy the women that get to do whatever they like when it comes to decorating. some men just don't care, but mine does. fortunately he has quite a good taste, but at times we have a hard time making decisions because we really want to make sure both of us are 100% happy with everything.

do you also at times have to compromise when it comes to style in your home?
or do you have "free rein"?

Hehe that's quite funny - I like your compromise :) Hmm kind of free rein. Hubby has opinions, but not enough concern to act on them and over the years has learnt to wait and see (and that he often ends up loving things he didn't like the sound of when I suggested them). He even painted the first coat of our chalkboard doors in the kitchen last week! How far we come...

WOW, Simona, you've outdone yourself with that Mucha sketch. I really hadn't known much about Mucha until we went to that art-exhibition in Berlin years ago - and ever since then I admire his style....and yours, of course!!!

By the way: is that little girl holding her knees Azumi?

hm, a lot of compromise here too..... mostly we go for my suggestions and ideas, but it sometimes takes a lot of convincing before we get there...

yes! i love mucha too. On the decorating front, my mr. and i butt heads a lot. he likes iconic things, probably could live in a house with pedestals and heavy drapes in all white. eeek. i am an international hippie i guess. so you can see our styles do not mix haha. the dartboard sounds really cool, especially with your talent that mucha would look awesome. glad i found your site!
