sisterly exploring in NOLA

i never really shared parts of our roundtrip back in april when we were in the states. most of what we experienced are family memories, which are documented in other spaces. it has been such a longed for and long awaited extended travel opportunity, that at times i cannot believe that it is actually over, and we're here again, post-travel. i will share some more details about my take on travelling light with kids and travelling with kids in general, but i'm taking my time to find the words. in the meantime, here are a few snippets of the first destination of our roadtrip: New Orleans, to which simona accompanied us.

in the French Quarter... quite the fitting restaurant for the two of us, just not for our budget...

me enjoying a po-boy.

Storyland in the City Park, such a magical place to visit!

beautiful Garden District...

somewhere along Magazine St...

we found New Orleans to be the perfect place for enjoying together all that we love: family, good food, arts and crafts, cute little shops and funky public transportation. we walked a lot (said funky transportation was so crowded at times we didn't have another option), but hasn't that always been the best method for getting to know a city? and i love that about cities: to be able to get from one part of the other on foot in a reasonable amount of time.

i love my hometown of Hamburg, Germany, and i love living here. no other city i have visited in Europe or the US has been able to compete with Hamburg (Sydney, Australia is the exception. but that is so far away and so long ago that it seems like another world to me). but NOLA? stole my heart away. i can truly say that it is my second favourite city in the world, and i'm so happy we were able to visit and explore it as a family!

It's a fun city and I love seeing your photos. It took such a hit from Katrina, but the people of have worked so hard to bounce back and thrive.

My daughter and her family leave soon for Baumholder, Germany soon. They are very excited.
