what came first? chicken, egg, or angry bird?

while i was intensely focused on my doodles, my hubby peeked over my shoulder and said:
"mm, looks nice. angry birds!"  – REALLY??
i tried to see what he saw in it without being insulted...
"angry birds? these? my chickens?"
"yeah, they look like angry birds. they're cute!"

my personal thought on these was more along the lines of who came first – chicken or egg?

this is how the chickens were created (and not inspired by a game i don't even play):
i started my first sketches with looking at how chickens sit, and the pictures helped me remember that you can't see any feet when they do. yes, in some respects i'm a city girl and i actually had to google for chicken images – how pathetic. i altered my sketches so not to show any chicken feet. also, i wanted them to look a bit plump, like when they're really cozy and don't stretch their necks at all. that gave them the egg-like shape which i thought was funny and ironic. after drawing lots of detailed folksy doodles with archival ink, i colored the drawing with acrylic paint in the colors i believe sylvia said she'd like to eventually have her kitchen in.

here you see all three hens sitting side by side. i've made the original drawing available in our shop and am considering making prints as well.
so what do you think? chicken or egg?

i'm not really sure how to categorize this style of drawing.  any suggestions?

I dont play Angry Birds either so sorry, can't help you on the similarities/lack of similarities but I do love them. And love those colours together too. Is Quirky Cute a category? xx

I didn't see Angry Birds at all! Just some beautiful mama hens. :)

Hey, why not call them "T-H" ;)) Yes, for "Tiffany Hens" !
That's the way they look to me, and they remind me of three girlfriends sitting on a fallen treetrunk together closely, sharing sectrets (in Austria).
Looking forward to admire some of them in Sylvia's new kitchen.

I love the process captured. And, not to mention how lovely the drawing is. But it's the getting in to the heads of artists I really dig. Thanks for this post.
