a little something for a june baby

last night, very late, i finished the "surprise" i was working on last week. it's a wee little vest for the newest little member of our family, due in june. yes, maybe that is another reason for the recent bebe-obsession of my little man. we're very excited and very very happy!

it's the puerperium cardigan to be found as a free download on ravelry. you can read about yarn and other details on my ravelry project page. i made it short sleeved, as it will be a summer baby after all, even though you never know with our summers.... but i thought i can't go wrong this way. it will look really cute over a onesie, i think!

now i need a little help with choosing the buttons. i really want to keep this cardi gender neutral, even though we will hopefully find out at the end of this month whether we're having a boy or a girl. but somehow, i feel these fresh little new ones are less boy or girl, but alltogether newborn, don't you think?

so, what colours of buttons would you recommend on this little piece??

next up, a fisherman's pullover for the litte one... using quince and co.'s gorgeous puffin yarn. no reading this time, i was too busy with the stitches :)

linking up with ginny's yarn along. what are you reading and knitting?

Oooo! Congrats!
As for buttons, my first thought was green - and it was exactly the same color as the yarn in the next photo.
Happy choosing!

Oh sweet Sylvia, CONGRATULATIONS! This is such wonderful news [hug]!
Does this mean we can have another baby shower, I'm thinking April to allow time for air time? Let me know.
The little top is very sweet. What about Beatrix Potter buttons? They work for a boy or girl.

Yay, big smiles here :)
I thought of a soft marigold for the buttons, or a light leafy green...

Congratulations!
What about stars or fish for buttons? Cute but not gender specific.

And why not alternate some pale blue, pink and green buttons, then you have the whole spectra of colors! :)

Such sweet knitting! I love the neutral color. I would keep it very neutral with the buttons too. Natural wood, beige, gray, dark chocolate.

Congratulations on your new little one!

this came out so nicely! it will fit on whatever it is, my niece or nephew :)
everybody's come up with good ideas for the buttons, i can't come up with a better one right now. orange is a nice color to go with the beige knit and is gender neutral.

Congratulations! I would also go for natural wooden buttons cut from the branch. How exciting and what a good excuse to knit fabulous baby clothes! Love the vest.

Congratulations! That is very exciting news! And your puerperium is lovely! I need to a do a new one for my littlest - her drool/spit up felted the collar! I made her with 3/4 length sleeves and it is sooooo cute over a long sleeved onesie. Happy baby knitting!
