my hubby and i had found and picked up a concrete bird bath at a yard sale a few months ago. we decided to make it more special and unique by adding mosaic glass tiles. after picking out the mosaics we didn't get around finishing the project so my hubby decided to turn it into a "brothers-in-law diy project" which was completed while my sister visited us with her family.
i took some pictures of how the bird bath project progressed.
you can see how the edge pieces were put on one by one, the next picture shows how my husband made sure all the tiles were straight and the joints clean by means of a tooth pick. more importantly: you can see how ice cream is the main element of a true "brothers-in-law d.i.y. project", it just makes things go so much smoother...
..after my brother-in-law grouted it with waterproof epoxy grout, and allowing a day for everything to dry, we could finally put the finished bird bath outside and fill it with water.
and, of course, my nephew was the first little birdie to take a bath in it!
were you able to complete any long-planned-for projects lately?
or do you still have all your projects on your to-do list?

That is really pretty! Love the toothpick as a tool! ;)
My projects? Just knitting and loving it! I am beginning to wonder if I might have a little problem! HA, Ha

it's so pretty and i'm glad it turned out to be a family project. xxx
This is so pretty! Love the colours!
I still have to finish a painting that I started in about march 2010...
It stands the whole time on my easel in the living room...
What a great family project! Thanks for sharing!
This is so so great! Unfortunately, MOST of my current projects are half complete. I'm not a great finisher =S
FUN! I think I need to steal this idea:) Oh, and i LOVE my bookmark and note books. They were made, wrapped and sent with love and I really, really appreciate that. I don't get presents often and I felt like I was opening a birthday present the way that you had them wrapped. You made my day! Thanks, Barefoot mama
Looks great & I love how it was 'tested out'!!
this is beautiful! nicely done! i have a lot of yarn i would love to start projects with, but before that i´m hoping to deep clean the kitchen and bathroom floors... glamorous stuff :)
That's so beautiful. I've been wanting to do a mosaic tile somewhere...and a birdbath is the perfect spot. Just found your blog...looking forward to reading more.
Thanks so much for sharing this on the Husband Challenge. Funny how well it ties in with what I wrote this month!
Just searching for ideas for my mom's birthday this weekend and so glad I came across this.
I have a ton of tiles in the garage that would make for an excellent project.
I'm thinking a bit of a twist though and making a mosaic jewelery box. Thanks for the great idea!
