what i did yesterday: starting a new painting

yesterday i started working on a new painting. quite a while ago i snatched a color sample card from a home improvement store with a photo i liked. do you collect these color inspiration cards as well? i can't ever get enough of them.

after i made a sketch based on elements found in the picture i started painting it on canvas. although i got a little further than what you see on the above photo i wasn't able to finish yet. but when i do i'll make sure to show you the finished piece.

i had to google the translation for what i sketched. it's weidenkätzchen in german, pussy willow or catkin in english. my parents get these in their yard every year, i love how soft they are! they are so soft i need to also touch them with my lips whenever i hold one in my hands. maybe it's weird for me to do that but i'm sure i'm not the only one out there... :)

This is gorgeous... yes, you have to run them lightly across your lips, it's instinctive, they are just so soft :) We grew up calling them pussy willows...

i also run them across my lips and a little towards my nose... i do this with fabric and yarn as well. it's just be best to estimate how soft something really is :)
love the painting, looking forward to seeing it finished!
