back online and back to reality

do you feel like i do when coming home from a vacation? surrounded by laundry and unpacked bags it seems like i need to remember how our day-to-day life went about before we left, and i'm in search for structure. but then, after just 1 or 2 days, i'm back, back in the flow and the routine, and what remain are wonderful memories and perhaps a few lessons learned as to taking in the moments, putting things in perspective and just savoring precious time as a family and with little ones. it was good to get away, a change of scenery, something completely different. we tend to go to the seaside on vacation, but this time we went for the mountains, hiking on more than 2000 meter high summits. it was awesome, walking through summer snow and swimming in a lake all in one day!

i had planned to spend one week completely offline. it made me realize that i had developed quite a few habits that aren't so easy to get rid off. checking email on my smartphone, posting on instagram, checking my instagram feed, googling every single question or detail that came up. i admit i did check the weather a few times, but that was it. of course i had the urge to share moments on instagram. of course i dreaded the amount of emails due to pop up in my inbox after not checking a few days. i was curious about blogs i usually read every day or several days a week. but if felt good just to let my phone stay in one spot all day (not my back pocket!) and the laptop closed. i finished 4 books during that week!

i plan to have more deliberate offline time throughout the year. it really helps me to focus on what really matters. to be present in the hear and now with my littles. to really savor all these precious moments without any distraction.

Oh, beautiful mountains!!

Yes, unplugging is much harder than one thinks it will be isn't it? I especially find it difficult, as you said, not to Google every question or curiosity. But how wonderful you were able to read FOUR (!) books!

Welcome back!

Welcome back. Lovely photos, looks like a spot I would love to visit :)

Ahhh...the lure and habit of technology. I don't think we realize how much it is a part of our lives until we take time away, purposely and mindfully. Good for you for sticking to your plan and for now planning more deliberate time offline.

I came back from a week vacation and I'm still catching up on everything! I don't like how much time I spend when it feels too suffocating. I try to have three or four days not on the blogs. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't :)

Looks like you had a wonderful time. How beautiful.

I've recently also spent a few days without access to the internet and came home to over 150 blog posts to read and had a panic attack. LOL!

Sometimes, you just need a reset button!

Have a great week-end!
