after writing it i just realized it's a total tongue twister for me, i couldn't pronounce it to save my life! it probably doesn't help trying to pronounce it with my german accent: "with shell stitch, with shell stitch, with shell stitch" – come on, say it faster! :)
last week i finished a hat that i ended up using for myself. it came in handy since i got a cold and could use something to keep me warm. after wearing it for a few days it got a lot bigger, i hope it'll get tighter again after washing. not sure what to if it doesn't shrink back. any ideas? do i need to make it smaller in the first place? (this actually is the toddler size... yeah, i know, it's a bit strange.)
i was also trying to take photos of the finished hat lying on the table, but apparently tybee misunderstood the photo shoot to be about her... the cuteness clearly got to her head :)
joining ginny again this week for yarn along. what are you
knitting and reading?

love the hat! you look so cute in it!
i don't think it'll get smaller once you wash it. if you do, make sure not to stretch it at all, because washing and stretching (blocking) knits usually makes them bigger.
toddler size? that is weird, you tiny head lady ;))
Love that stitch you used Simona, I've never seen it before.
It must be your German accent, I can say it fast, but then I don't have much of an accent. I will have to get Mike to try it, he has a southern drawl that is 'dreamy'!
and i cannot say the title fast - total tongue twister.. must be our german ;)
hat is great!!! love that pattern--and the color combo!
It is beautiful, love it!
Cats just own everything... but since they do it so elegantly us humans arrange life around them ;).
I love to have pets in the home although we are having more nibbling folks at home. Cute and owning nonetheless (and so fluffy)!
Love the colors in your hat...too bad about the sizing! I'd try again with a smaller hook because the shell pattern really is quite pretty. :)
That hat is awesome-love the shell stitch! Sizing is so weird which is probably why I haven't attempted a hat for myself or a sweater. Tybee is the cutest-gotta love cats and their perspective.
german is not my native tongue, and i can hardly say it out loud either! love your hat! and toddler size?! my kids have inherited my large noggin and my two year old is already in adult sizes for bike helmets and such!
You must have a tiny head! It may or may not draw up when you wash it...depends on the yarn. I'm fine if I say the title slowly. If I go fast....not a good thing...the potty mouth turns on and ugly stuff comes out. It is rather comical if you're not easily offended ;)
@ Tracey: maybe you're one of those people who can master any tongue twister! how did mike do?
@ lisa coffee: that's funny with head sizes, isn't it? i never thought much of it but then i started making hats and realized my 3 year old nephew has about my size head. no wonder hats and glasses don't look right on me, i've been looking in the adult department all along when that's not really my size! maybe my small head size explains more things about me… ;)
@ sylvia, Melissa, Lisa: i suppose i'll try washing it and then the other option is making a smaller one or just dealing with it and making a different hat altogether.
lovely hat!! you don't say what the yarn is, if it is wool it will spring back a little. If it is superwash wool toss in the dry a bit (keep checking!!) if it is cotton, silk blend, or alpaca blend or any other fiber that has little to no memory you might have to run some elastic thread through the brim edge. Good luck, it looks wonderful!!
It's just lovely Simona! Maybe you could stitch in some thread-like elastic into the edge or around the first shell stitch round to keep it fitting your head?
It is beautiful :) I totally see your resemblance to Sylvia in that picture...
great hat. currently working on knitted necklace circles. they are fun. i need to make some medium ones. right now all are long are sort. i need to remember about the yarn up!!
Love the shell stich! Was it difficult to do?
oh my goodness i love this hat. if you really don't know what to do with it i would be willing to give it a good home :)
your photos are beautiful, the top one is really so pretty, you look lovely.
