yarn along and baby in handmades

it's been quite a while since i joined the linkup, but as you can see from the above photos, i was knitting and reading (and taking photographs of both). i am reading titles from my summer reading list and have finished two of them: Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet and Call the Midwife. i loved both books, particularly the last one, heartbreaking at times but most of all heartwarming, midwives belonging to my favourite people in the world, especially in this time of my life. i will write a small review when i finished the summer reading program. i totally recommend reading it, but i need to mention that the book does not leave out all the messy details of pregnancy and labour, so i consider it especially interesting for what i'll call "birth junkies" ;)

i'm still knitting my cowl, not the darkside cowl after all, just a plain and simple one, because i messed up the pattern and was too lazy to start over again. but that's okay... i might try the darkside cowl with another, more regular yarn that will make it easier for me to follow the pattern!

i thought i might share some photos of our little junebug wearing some of the things i made for her and had shared here in the past months:

the first little sweater i had made for her. several of you had suggested wooden buttons or beatrix potter ones. well, when i saw these sweet jemima puddleduck buttons on etsy i fell in love with them right away. i think this cardi will still fit her several weeks...

here is a shot of her wearing the easy baby cardigan. i found out it is quite short in the body but has super long arms, if i ever knit it again i will make the body longer. she was actually wearing it when we brought her home (i gave birth in an alternative birthing center with the help of midwives and we were back in our own bed 5 hours later), but it was huge! (and of course, she was quite a tiny baby). it's just now starting to fit her well.

this is a cute and tiny little cotton dress that my mum knitted, and it fit her from day one. i love the thought that she might want to put it on one of her dolls in a few years!

i'm joining ginny's yarn along. what are you knitting and reading?
also joining frontier dreams keep calm craft on for the first time!

What a lovely layette! I absolutely adore the Beatrix Potter buttons - this will sound so daft, but I never thought to look on Etsy for buttons. Thanks for the idea!

How incredibly darling and sweet she is! I love seeing all the things you made being put to good use. And how quickly she'll change. How is big brother doing?

I've heard about that book - the title alone would make me read it, but right now, I can barely think about reading. Things are so busy. Too busy, really.

Oh, what a beautiful baby! And such lovely handknits! I love the Jemima Puddle-duck buttons - she was my favorite when I was a child and I've just introduced my children to her, and they adore her too. (My husband can't get past the part where the dogs eat her eggs, but it doesn't seem to faze my littles just now…which makes me think much of what we "protect" our children from is really our own oversensitivity. But I digress…) xo
