my current project: wire birdie and flower

what i like about making wire art is that i can take it on the road and work on it while my hubby is driving. so far i didn't get car sick doing this yet!
we just came back from a road trip (will show some pictures another day) and i started working on this little birdie.

now i am making some more little ones such as this flower so i can use them to decorate some of the bigger etsy orders when i send them out.

besides trying to do some artwork i love snacking non-stop. and the best thing our family did when on road trips growing up was listening to cassette tapes such as audio books. it makes time fly by and you even educate yourself in the meanwhile!

what do you do to kill time on a road trip?
do you get car sick at all?
do you bring loads of activities for the kids?

the birdie is available in artsy ants shop.

Your wire creations are adorable :) T
That's a great idea... I usually buy some magazines, read a book, or doodle ideas for paintings in my sketchbook. Luckily I've never been car sick!

@ sara: i totally envy people like you who don't get car sick when reading. i even get car sick when trying to doodle in my sketch book. in a matter of minutes the fun is over for me :)

Your bird is so, so sweet. I do get car sick, on road trips but I have found that as long as I keep my head up I can work on something - usually knitting or crochet. And I definitely try and keep the kids busy with activities or DVDs - otherwise, on an 8 hour drive, they would drive me crazy!! xx

I can't wait to see what you are going to use them for? I swear I thought I would never hear the word cassette tape? "giggles"

I like to knit when travelling, but can't do anything that requires looking at without getting sick when in the car.

@elle marie: i know, cassette tape sounds so oldschool! but believe it or not, they are still very popular in germany, my nephew has loads and still listens to them.

i'd love to knit while sitting in the car, but i get car sick in no time :((

Your birdie is gorgeous! Such a cute design and what a bonus that you can make them in the car :-)

love the bird!
we always have kids' CDs in the car and often we stop at the library right before the trip and fill our book box in the car with new and interesting reads (books with CDs? yes, please!). very important: plenty of snacks and water for everyone! and a pillow and blanket for the girlie.

I love the little bird! Thank goodness I do not get car sick! I was raised in a military family that moved every year or two. I have driven across the US too many times to count. I read, sketch and now knit when I travel. When my children were little I would pack magnet puzzles and travel games for them to do. We also listen to books on tape; The Story of the World is one of my favorites.

I'm fine as long as I sit in the passenger seat. I do read at times, but I just love looking at the landscape. We took a lot of road trips as a kid, and I was fascinated by the towns we drove through, or the houses or the road signs (South of the Border or Wall Drug signs for miles and miles...)

I don't get carsick, so I even used to knit a lot on roadtrips all the way down to the Mediterrenean Sea f.i. Of course, we rented loads of CDs for those trips as well and German-speaking readers will remember "Benjamin Blümchen", the friendly elephant, I suppose :)
