color inspiration: sunny winter day

these past days have been very busy, but still i couldn't help but notice how the snow left-overs silently melted away. there is only some snow left where the sun couldn't reach.

when we studied colors at design school i did this quick tiny gouache painting, its purpose was to be a sketch referring to a certain color combination. using shades of blue and yellow, i found shapes that would represent what a cold but sunny winter day to me looks and feels like. i was recalling memories of sunshine in the snow covered alps.

here's again the color palette serving as inspiration:

edit: i scheduled this post last night. when i woke up it was snowing...

Sorry it's snowing! Snow in spring is no fun... that's why I moved from Wisconsin to Oklahoma :)

The colors in the sketch are really representing the wonderful days we used to spend in the Alps every March. Sometimes, though I honestly thought: Oh, no - back to winter, when the flowers and bushes in our garden start blooming already. And yet, snow and sun is the most beautiful combination, warming heart and soul.
