yarn along :: a shawl and reading about home

happy yarn along wednesday! about the beginnings of the saco stripes tank that i had started 2 weeks ago: i frogged the whole piece on the weekend. i detected a mistake that could not be undone and was kind of surprised about the sense of relief i felt when i started ripping. it felt so good! i had not been convinced of this garment from the start, our summers being rather mild and short, i was unsure about the fabric (too transparent for my taste) and had no sense of whether my gauge was ok. plus, it was taking me ages, making me think i would probably finish it by fall... i now need to find a new project for my lovely sparrow yarn, and i might look into shawls, as quince and co has a big shawl kal planned...

first of all, i turned back to some wip's, like this shawl i am making up as i go, with gorgeous flock & needle yarn, a heavenly blend of bluefaced leicester and silk. the colorway is called retired shipyard, and being a harbor-city girl, i am thinking i might make a triangular shawl that resembles the image of a bow of a ship, with a few lace circles to mimic portholes, with a broad and squishy garter stitch to reflect rippling waters as the ship glides through it. that's the image i have in my head and i hope that i am able to translate it into a wearable shawl...

i have picked up gretchen rubin's "happier at home" once again. i realised while reading "love the home you have" (which is ok, btw. a lot of the things in there are common sense to me, but i like the 31-day love your home challenge at the end) - that i had never finished gretchen's book. i love her style of writing, it is very clever and entertaining, so i picked it up again.

I have her first book still unread. Must get to it. Love your yarn you are knitting with and I'm glad you found that mistake and was happy about it!

Your yarn looks blue and orange?! I could make a gazillion scarves/shawls here in Denver and sell them using that gorgeous yarn. People in Denver are crazy about the Broncos! The book does sound interesting. I'll have to add that to my very long queue!

That yarn is so beautiful and so very summery - I look forward to seeing your finished creation! I read Gretchen Ruben's first book and quite enjoyed it. This one keeps popping up in my sights. Maybe it's trying to tell me something!
