the comforts of apple picking

there is so much comfort in rhythm and routines, repeating activities day after day, week after week, year after year. our family faced a very tragic loss last week, and while we're all still struggling to accept this reality and experience moments in which all that seems possible for us is to give up - we are forced, especially by and for the little ones, to carry on.
so even though there is so much sadness on our minds and in our hearts, this simple activity reminded us of all the beauty, abundance and life around us. i'm so glad we didn't skip this year. today we want to make some apple sauce and apple butter. some to eat right away and some to keep, for more comfort on cold winter days.
make sure to give all your little (and big) loved ones an extra hug today!
wishing you all a good start into your weekly rhythm.

Looks lovely! our local orchard were hit hard by a late frost so the pickings are a little slim this year, but oh so good!

So sorry for your loss last week, hugs. You are so right though, the rhythm of our days, weeks, months and years does bring comfort.

Off to hug my little one. Wishing you a lovely week.

i'm very happy you got to go apple picking and that the weather played along so well, you were looking forward to it so much!
especially big hugs are being sent across the ocean to all of you this week, have you felt them already? i'm not sure how long it takes for them to arrive :) i spent a lot of time today watching videos we took together last month, i can't ever get enough of them.

Could he get any cuter?!

I have excellent memories of picking apples when I was young; someday I hope to pass this on to my girl as well.

I'm so, so sorry to hear of your loss. :( I can hear the pain in your voice as I read this and I wish there were something I could do. Prayers for you all..

The apple sauce turned out especially delicius. And it was such a good idea to go to this beautiful area by the Elbe river and pick apples as a family!
