the world of books

last week the little man got his very first library card! we have a public library in our neighbourhood, it's just a ten minute walk from our house. and what a lovely place it is! i've always loved libraries and bookstores of all kinds, but the children's section of that particular library is the best. full of little nooks and cozy spots to sit and read and browse... lots of tiny chairs at small tables and shelves with just the perfect height for little people to find their next read.

about 70% of the books that we read here, with our little one at least, are in german. i personally prefer english books. there are so many great english children's books out there, and i'm always tempted to buy more, but i am trying to focus a little more on german, as that is the language that i wish for him to learn to read and write first.

in this regard we'd like to let you know that we've joined the amazon affiliates programme. you can find a widget at the lower right sidebar. although we would earn a tiny percentage of any purchases you make through these links, our main focus remains on sharing and recommending, whereever you choose to browse or buy these books in the end (maybe even your local independent bookstore? we'd love that!). we will be concentrating on art/craft and family related books and books for children. and you will only find books in that widget that we've read and liked ourselves! the list is still quite short, but keep checking as we will add more in time!

I think a library card is the best card to own! The whole world just opened! I love children's books, especially the earlier ones, the illustrations are always so lovely.
Happy reading.

How delightful! I remember when I was little in the former Yugoslavia, going to the library with my parents and trying to find as many English books as I could!

What a wonderful age to get a library card! Neither of my girls have one at this point... the fines were getting out of control. That looks like a great library!

Oh gorgeous! I have a couple of our favourites to send you for when you're in the mood for English - let me know if you find some German favourites that my lot might like :)

Book are soooo very precious for the development of small children. How nice for Spencer to have such loving parents who care so much about his early education!
