i've seen a lot of wire art with those cute nests with eggs in it. so simple but so adorable. i've made my own nest just to try it out and then thought that it's missing the mama bird! so i made a birdie that can stand by itself to watch over the nest. it makes the scene more complete to me. i gave it to a friend that is one of the most loving and generous persons i've ever met, she reminds me of my own mother and i'm happy that they will both be able to meet soon.
you probably know how the cuckoo lays its egg in some other bird family's nest. there are parts to how it works out for them that are quite unhappy, such as the cuckoo chick growing quite large over a short period of time so that it kicks out its fellow nest-mates. the part that is cute though is how the bird's step-parents take on full responsibility for their huge, fat, hungry step-baby and keep feeding it as if it was theirs. i love seeing in nature as well as in human lives how families can expand their love by taking in new members as if they were their own, at the same time adding to their capacity to love. we can always love more, family or not, there is no limit. love defies mathematics, it doubles if we share it.
like right now, i don't really have a relationship with my unborn niece yet. but i am excited at the thought of one day loving her as much as i love my nephew. it's hard to imagine right now but i know it's true: she will be a different person but not any less loved than any of my other family members which i cannot imagine life without.
