a split pea fisherman's pullover

occupied with so much baby knitting, it became clear that i needed to finish a project for my first baby as soon as possible. the fisherman's pullover, quite a favourite pattern on ravelry, made it into my library as well. i chose to knit it in quince and co.'s puffin yarn, as i had seen many beautiful fisherman's knitted up in that yarn. i must say i like it a lot, even though it is very thick and maybe a little stiff (not sure what blocking does with puffin, as i haven't blocked this pullover yet, maybe it'll get a little softer).

also, it is very very warm, so i was in a bit of a rush to finish it. i think the winter days are almost over.  but then the split pea green colour makes it look a lot like spring too, so i am imagining it will get a lot of outside wear in the warmer but still cool days ahead!

it's a cute little pattern, even though the short rows and the raglan increases gave me a little headache at first. i also wasn't concentrating enough with the garter stitch panel and just kept on knitting when it was time to purl. sometimes i noticed and went back a few stitches, sometimes i didn't. but oh well, that's the lovely thing about knitting projects for little people. they knit up very fast and the wearers are quite forgiving about any mistakes made! my ravelry notes are here.

in any case, it's the perfect pullover for my little guy, whereever his adventures may take him - to sea or into the garden!

i'm joining ginny's yarn along again today. i'm still reading Barnheart: The Incurable Longing for a Farm of One's Own (i know, it's taking me a while, isn't it? but i finished a knitting project!). i ordered a new book i am excited about which i will share in next week's yarn along!

Great color on your wee one. You are right, it does look lke spring.
Would you please post after you block it and let us know if the wool softens? I haven't used this wool before and would really like to know.
Have a happy yarn along!

Cute and I love the color! Have so much appreciation for those who knit!

One question...washing. How do you? I can just imagine one of my boys spilling a whole bowlful of yogurt over something so nice!

love the color. great job. and thanks for sharing there are a few mistakes in there. just last night i was wondering if in any more experienced knitters projects in here there were mistakes made that were not fixed perfectly...lol...somehow it gives me hope!

@ Tracey: yes, I will block it during the next days and let you know how it turned out. unfortunately, I am discovering some pilling already - after just a few days of wear :((

@ Tonya: i wash them by hand. if something spills, i take it off right away and rinse it. i use a natural wool detergent and soak in cold water for a few minutes. afterwards i dry the pieces usually lying flat in a warm place. i only wash 100% wool stuff when it's actually filthy, because the antibacterial quality of wool makes it unnecessary to wash it frequently.

hope this helps!

ooh love that green. And what a cute pattern unfortunately no little ones around to make them for at the moment.

Your book choice sounds lovley...the problem with Yarn Along is that I hear about so many interesting sounding things to read that my reading wish list is getting longer and longer...
